Mike Dubey

Mike is the owner and training provider of Dua Training.

His formative life in engineering was when he was conscripted into the Royal Air Force, where he worked on a range of aircraft, from the mundane Anson to the more exotic Harrier, finally finishing his air force career on the Red Arrows. The latter portion of his time with the RAF he was able to make use of their generous services educational scheme, where he attended extra-mural courses in both mechanical and refrigeration engineering, to achieve an ONC in Mechanical Engineering and City and Guild in Refrigeration engineering.

On release from the RAF he emigrated to New Zealand and was promptly employed by Refrigeration Engineering, as a service and commissioning engineer, on mainly industrial plant. After three years with Refrigeration Engineering, he was offered a position with Raph Engle Systems with more orientation towards design and project engineering, as well as the commissioning of the industrial refrigeration.

On leaving Raph Engle Systems he joined New American Ice Cream, where he worked overseeing and managing the engineering side in four other locations beside their main plant in Otahuhu, which he assisted with the design along with Armadillo Engineering. With amalgamation of New American Ice Cream and Tip Top Ice Cream, Mike left the industry to try his hand as being self employed, where he could enjoy his passion of sailing.

A position at Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) was brought to his attention where he “guest lectured” for a couple of weeks before being offered a permanent position as lecturer. As the refrigeration department grew, with increase of students and other courses, including students from the armed forces, with an increase of staff Mike was promoted to Senior Lecturer. During this time he took many professional development courses, in electrical, welding, medical gas brazing and an “Advanced Certificate in Adult Teaching”. During time he was also the proud recipient of the “IRHACE award for his commitment to Training and Education”.

Mike finally took voluntary redundancy from MIT to take a commitment to IRHACE to assist them to implement the “Fillers and Handler” scheme and the intention to write the resource material, teach the courses and become a “Test Certifier” and to be able to sign off competent trainees. With a change of direction and an untenable situation he finally retired. This was short-lived as respected people within the industry asked him to train and sign off their staff. With this DUA Refrigeration Training was born after re-writing the training material. Since then DUA Refrigeration Training has been party to not only teaching the “Fillers and Handler” scheme but other training to other respected firms.
